Various Possible Causes of Developmental Children and Their Characteristics
Mental retardation is a term for people with intellectual and cognitive abilities that are below average compared to children in general. This condition can occur in infants after birth, since the baby is in the womb or during labor.
People with intellectual disabilities can be recognized from the process of thinking and learning slower than healthy children in general. Not only that, they are also less capable in practicing the skills to carry out normal daily activities. Various things that can be the cause of mental retardation
Basically, mentally retarded children are known to have limitations in two main things, the first is the limitations of intellectual function (IQ), namely the ability to learn, make decisions, find reasons and solve problems. Second is limitations on the ability to adapt, such as difficulty communicating effectively, taking care of themselves and interacting. The above conditions can generally be caused by the following things:- Brain infections that occur after the baby is born.
- Babies are born prematurely.
- Brain injury due to an accident or fall.
- Abnormalities in genes inherited from parents.
- Babies do not get enough oxygen during labor.
- Mothers get infections when pregnant.
- Mothers consume alcohol, illegal drugs or certain drugs while pregnant.
Recognize the Signs of Early Developmental Disability
Signs of mentally retarded children can be recognized from the womb until they enter school. Some of the most frequent signs are:- Children late talking, sitting, crawling or rolling.
- Difficult to remember.
- Slow to master basic abilities, such as eating alone, dressing or pooping in the toilet.
- Behavioral disorders, such as frequent uncontrolled temper tantrums.
- Cannot link the action with the consequences of the action.
- Difficult to think logically or solve minor problems.
